Bully (formerly titled The Bully Project) is really a 2011 documentary film concerning bullying in U. S. schools. Hirsch was a victim of bullying as a child and decided to create a documentary so that this hidden lives of bullied children will be brought into the start. He approached the non-profit business Fractured Atlas which presented him partial funding for the film. Significant additional funding was furnished by Sundance Institute Documentary Deposit, The Fledgling Fund, BeCause Foundation and The law of gravity Films. The films music was composed by Ion Jordan Furjanic (former member of the band Force Hypothesis) and indie band Bishop Allen.

In a screening within Minneapolis in September 2011, Hirsch told the audience that he, himself, had been bullied, and that was the main inspiration for the video, and for the direction he took it. In an interview with a Twin Cities Jewish news website after the screening Hirsch continued:

“I felt that the hardest a part of being bullied was talking, ” Hirsch said. “And getting help. I couldnt enroll peoples assist. People would say such things as get over it, even my own father and mother. They werent with everyone. That was a big part of my wanting to help make the film. Its cathartic on an everyday basis. ” Hirsch said he or she hoped the film grows far beyond him, inspiring advocacy, engagement, and empowerment not just in those who find themselves being bullied and into their families, but by those of us who often times stand by and complete nothing. He stated, “I hope we create something thats really eco friendly. I hope this has a life of its. ”

On February 27, 2012, Katy Butler of Ann Arbor, Michigan created an Adjust. org online petition on the CEO of the MPAA in order to reduce the movies status from R (caused by language) to PG-13. As a former prey of bullying, Katy states that ” Due to the R rating, most kids wont are able to see this film. No one under 17 will be allowed to see the movie, and the film wont be allowed to be screened in American middle schools or excessive schools. ” Common Sense Media also disagreed using the rating, recommending the film to mature teens thirteen in addition to older.

As of March 15, 2012, Butler had collected more than 300, 000 signatures, but she says the Motion picture Association of America doesnt would like to make the change. Joan Graves of this MPAA says that though Bully is often a “wonderful film, “.
