What You Should Know Before Hiring A Computer Repair Guy

There are a number of things you should look for when deciding on who to hire to repair your computer. As a computer technician with over 20 and experience, I’ve seen the good and the bad, and I want you to hire someone that really gets the job done. I am writing this article to make sure you have the knowledge to hire the right computer tech. Below are the top four things I would think about and look for in a technician.

The first thing you need to look for in a computer technician is reliability. You want a technician that is going to call you back. I have heard so many horror stories from clients about technician that never responded to their call. In fact, that is how I gained most of my new clients. They often get upset with their current technician and so they turned me, the guy who called him back. Callbacks should be done in a timely manner. If you call and leave a voicemail after hours you should expect a call the next morning. Reliability is key. Without reliability you have nothing.

The second thing you need to look for when choosing a computer technician is their knowledge. Is this a technician that keeps up on the latest trends? I know many older computer technicians in my field that have stopped doing the research. They are out of touch with what the business clients or home user clients could use to make life easier. So many more cool technologies are available on the web nowadays. But you would be surprised at how many older techs have no idea about new software or hardware. You want a computer technician who enjoys keeping up with the latest technology news.

You need a technician that is good at communication. So many technicians get caught up in the computer screen in front of them and never see the light of day. They have no idea how bad their interpersonal skills are. You want a technician that is able to describe the repair they are about to do, and who also listens to what exactly it is you want done. A good technician shouldn’t be afraid of people. I always tell my technicians that their communication skills are much more important than any other skill they have.

Speaking of skills, this is one area you need to consider as well. Does your computer technician have the skills and experience to troubleshoot the problem? How many jobs have a previously done? I can tell you that in 20 years of doing this business I have seen so many strange situations. Finding solutions to the strange problems has given me the skills I need to do your repair.

So be careful before you hire a computer technician. Make sure you have a good dialogue with them and make sure that they appear reliable. This should help you hire the best technician you can.
